Departure Day Sunday

An eventful day today, we left around 8AM which was what we had planned. Arrived at the border in Emerson a little over an hour later. Usual questions, usual answers, BUT...pull over to door #1...oh oh don't think this is the Price is Right.

"We'll hold onto your passports until the agents are finished" Into the garage, "only take your money out leave all electronics inside."

Put us in a small room as part of the garage. Can't really see what they are doing as the glass is semi-transparent. They virtually searched everything in the back, and would pop into the room to ask us a question like "Why do you have so much coffee?" answer "because we like it" "Why do you have so many stuffed toys? answer "because we are donating them to the kids" Not gifting them because when you asked us originally if we had gifts for anyone or leaving anything we said no...you say gifts...I say donations.

They were very polite and almost friendly, and every time I have an answer, the guy would say "that makes sense" They apologized for the delay.

So after about a 45 minute delay we were off, must have been White Car Day as the car in front of us got pulled in as well and it was white.

We got to West Acres Mall around Noon when it opened, and I wanted to go to AT&T to see about a data plan. We are all fixed up in ten minutes so that I could use my phone as a hotspot and Katie could use her tablet in the car as we are driving. $49.95 for 30 days with 6 gigs of date, free phone calls and texts, and that includes Mexico as long as 50% of the usage is in the US.

After Fargo and just before Watertown, the driving was tough. Blowing snow and slush because it was melting. Two or three cars went in the ditch, and I suspect that when they felt the car starting to move in a way they didn't expect they applied the brakes...BAD MISTAKE...now they spin and into the ditch they go. I felt it a few times but no brakes for me.

After Watertown, these conditions stopped and it was dry and good driving to Council Bluffs.

We got to Harrah's around 6:50PM, and got assigned our free room for three days. We were happy to hear her say 9th floor. That means it is a suite, which are gorgeous, we have been in one a couple of times before. Beautiful view of the river and Omaha City on the other side, very large living room, seperate bedroom, two sinks on opposite sides of the large bathroom, spa tub, seperate shower, all gold fittings, and the best part? a phone right beside the Throne. Also robes in the closet.

We had the very good buffet but decided not to do any gambling tonight...hard drive and tired. Can guarantee if we didn't gamble for three days, we would not be getting the 9th floor anymore.

Off to bed...overall a pretty good first day

more later...

  1. Bummer with the border crossing. Glad you weren't held up for too long. Certainly not fun.
