Wednesday/Thursday March 7/8

We went to Mexico on Wednesday to see the kids. We thought we were going to see them and then watch Karelly have her dance lessons for her Quince later on.

Erika picked us up at the bridge, glad to see the car we got them is still running ok.

Well that was a wrong thought. The kids were still at school but came back around 6. We were so glad to see them, and there were big hugs and kisses all around.

Erika wanted us to be the first that got the invitations to the Quince, and was waiting for us to do that. They are beautiful. She will go to Monterrey with the kids Friday or Saturday, to give out the rest out to family and friends. Karelly has an Eiffel Tower theme because she wants to go there one day.

Now for what was really going to happen. Jim has a special dance with Karelly right after she dances the first dance with her Dad. I knew I was going to get a dance because they made sure they tested me last year to see if I could dance, and were happy and clapping when they found out I didn't have two left feet.

They have a friend Jorge who is doing the choreography for the dances, and now it was practice time for Jim to learn his steps. I had to go through the routine several times to get the movements down, and I could see that this was going to require some practice time. Katie and I will practice at home as we will be able to get the music. The song is Brittany Spears "I am not a girl, not yet a woman", which is very appropriate for this occasion, as tradition has it that Karelly is becoming a woman.

The practice was fun, and what I learned is that Karelly is a very good dancer. For a traditional Quince she would have 14 boys and 14 girls as attendants, but Karelly didn't want that and only wanted her Dad and me. Jorge told her it would be much better if she has a couple of boys dance with her. So she got a couple of her friends from school, who agreed to participate, probably not so willingly.

After I finished my practice, then Karelly and her two friends starts their routines, which are much more intricate that mine. One of the boys is not quite as coordinated as the other, but was certainly trying hard, and I was amazed how good it was all going to look, and the understanding of why it required three practices a week.

Katie took some video of the practice...

The Practice  (press on "The Practice")

Here is just a tease with the first two boys, one slightly uncoordinated and Jorge

After all of the practice for the night, which ended around 9...they wanted us to come back Thursday for another practice and a friend of Erika's named Lupita said she was going to make us supper.

Katie and I walked over the bridge to our car and it was virtually empty...got to Customs...no problem and off home we went.

THURSDAY

Back to practice and supper. I only needed one go through as I had practiced with Katie. Another friend of Karelly's substituted for the mostly un-coordinated first boy. Quite an improvement was noticed almost immediatly, and this was his first practice. He did very well.

Lupita made us Gorilas with chicharron in green salsa...they are like small tortillas and they were delicious!

We watched all the practice, and around 9 it was over the bridge again, basically deserted to our car and home

As a side note...we had our golf cart up for sale and sold it today for the asking price to a lady in the park.

and so ends another great day in the Valley and Mexico

more later
